FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FAQ: FAQ

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY DOG GROOMED?

On the average, dogs should be groomed every four to eight weeks. Of course, this depends on the owner's ability to do daily brush outs. It also depends on your dog's breed, coat and how often your dog is outside. You may want your dog to be groomed on a tighter schedule to keep their haircut fresh.

DOES MY DOG NEED TO BE UP TO DATE ON THEIR VACCINATIONS?

We do not require proof of vaccination but recommend that you do have your dog vaccinated regularly. This is for your dog's own safety.

MY DOG SHEDS ALL THE TIME, CAN YOU DO SOMETHING FOR THAT?

Yes, we are able to take dead hair out of your dog's coat before, during and after the bath. If your dog is shedding considerably or has an extremely thick coat you may be charged more for the time needed to brush it completely out.

MY DOG IS REALLY MATTED, WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR THEM?

If your dog is severely matted we can offer you a "shave-down" with the longest blade that will go underneath the matts. If that is not acceptable to you, you may want to comb out the matts paying particular attention to the underarms, stomach and behind the ears before you bring your dog to the shop. Remember that it is more humane to shave the matts off and start over than to de-matt a heavily matted coat. Decreasing the time between appointments or choosing a different style of haircut for your dog may also help with matting.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL MY APPOINTMENT?

We try to be fairly flexible with our clients schedule. We do ask that you give us a 48 hour heads up if you need to cancel - this allows us to fill that slot with another client's pet. If for any reason you do need to cancel less than 48 hours before your appointment please call the shop first. You may leave a message, we check all messages the next business day.

WHAT TYPE OF PAYMENTS DO YOU ACCEPT?

We accept checks or cash - all payments must be paid at the time of service.

HOW DO I SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT?

You may call the shop at (207) 839-2139 or message us on Facebook. The quickest way to get in touch with us during the business day is by calling. If you leave us a message after hours we will get it the next business day and give you a call by the end of business hours that day.

When you call for an appointment please be as specific as you can about what you would like. Adding your name, a contact number, your dog's breed or approximate coat type, what type of haircut or trim you're looking for - all of this information is helpful when determining a quote and how long it will take to finish your dog.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

Every dog is different and every groom is different. We base our prices on the size of your dog, type of coat your dog has and the groom itself. Fees will be added on for extremely matted animals, extra brushing beyond what would normally be accommodated for that particular breed, and a dog that requires more time and attention due to behavior and age. When you set up your appointment you may ask for a price quote but we cannot give you a completely accurate quote until we see the dog in person.

HOW WILL MY DOG BE DRIED?

We dry every dog using a 3 step process to cut down on stress and promote efficiency. Once we've rinsed your dog of soap we use our hands to squeeze water from the coat (if necessary), then towel dry them using our extremely absorbent microfiber towels. We then use a High Velocity dryer (found in all grooming salons) to eliminate the majority of moisture from the dog's coat before allowing them to rest in a crate while we finish the drying process using a mild airstream from an industrial stand dryer in our carefully maintained drying room. If you've been to our shop you will know our drying room is constructed so that clients may see the dogs being dried, as well as the groomers. We have multiple vantage points to every crate so that during the process we may oversee every dog in the room. The drying room is also outfitted with a temperature gauge (visible to the groomers by way of our glass doors) and an industrial air conditioner that, by way of company policy, is ALWAYS running when the dryers are. Our last policy is to turn on the circulating fan that sucks moisture and heat from the room and deposits it outside our facility. If you have any other questions regarding our safety practices and drying policies, please don't hesitate to contact us.
